New

It feels apt to me that my first blog post on my shiny brand new website should be about all things new. As I embark on the launching of my new yoga classes after a move to the sea, I consider what the word new means. Newness can mean so many things. A rebirth, a beginning, a shedding of an old skin. A removal & detachment to that which no longer serves you. A blossoming flower in the spring or a new moon.

What does new mean to you? As we start to ease out of the government restrictions, I consider how readily I tread. How the idea or newness as renewal & rebirth helps me to venture into the unknown. Meeting new people. Treading new paths. Making new connections. Each walk I take with my dogs, I like to tune into that which is new. Trees I have never seen, different scents of plants, the satisfying crashing of the waves on the shore as I explore the coastline.

Thinking about newness in a positive way, encourages me to be present in my experiences, leaving behind any thoughts or ideas that no longer serve me. It allows me to be brave, to make deeper & more meaningful connections with others and helps me to be my authentic self as I embark on new experiences. Take a moment of quiet meditation, tune into your breath. Each cycle of in & outbreath, new, unique. Each time the air flows in and out of your body, every cell in your being is renewed. Could we think of new experiences as a renewal for the soul? Each time you experience something new, your soul is bathed and open to new ideas; those which positively serve you. Perhaps this idea may ease a sense of unrest about venturing into new situations, after having been away from the outside world for such a long time.

New doesn’t have to be big or scary. The pandemic has taught me to take pleasure in the little things. To appreciate simplicity. How about trying something new? A new flavour of tea? A new genre of book perhaps? Or maybe, go to to that new yoga class in town (!?) Whatever that new thing is you’ve been wanting to try, no matter how small, these little steps at newness can help us tackle the bigger challenges we face in life. Stepping into the unknown with a sense of curiousness. Celebrating even the smallest newness will help to grow our collective consciousness, re-wire any worrying thoughts about newness and impove our confidence in the unknown.

I invite you to try something new today.
